Who is Eleanor Sweet McDonnell?

What you may not know about Eleanor...

Eleanor spent 50% of her life on a 50 acre farm in Ohio with well and septic. Every spring she planted 500 - 1000 young saplings in their woods on the farm.  She is a second generation Slovac immigrant.

Eleanor Anne Sweet (McDonnell), is President and CEO of The Remington Group LLC, a firm specializing in B2B business development, Team Alighnment (training deal with trust and conflict issues)  and leadership strategies.

Past was an Adjunct Professor, Loyola University, - Quinlan School of Business, Guest Speaker for the past 8 years at City of Chicago - Business Education Workshops.

She graduated from Boston College - BS - Marketing,

and received her MBA from Northwestern University - Kellogg Graduate School of Management - EMP 22. 

Eleanor was awarded 2024 Barrington Area GOP Woman of The Year, 2023 Milton Stuart Award - Lake County Republican Federation for Outstanding Dedication to the Lake County Repulican Party, Influential Women in Business (Daily Herald), Women of Distinction - Lake County (Shaw Media), and nominated for the ATHENA International Leadership Award. 

Eleanor is a passionate cahmpion for the area residents she currently serves and helps, and will take that same passion while Representing the District 17 area resident. 

She is the proud mother of two young adults, two rescue cats and current volunteers as a President for the Village of North Barrington snce 2019.

Contiune to Look for Ways to Save Money

Recently renegotiated 3 year intergovernmental agreement (IGA) between Village of Lake Barrington and  Lake County. This assures a strong regional commitment to public safety. This is estimated to result in $237,000 savings to the Village of the term of the contract.

PERSONAL LIFE

Eleanor was born and raised in the greater Cleveland, Ohio area before moving to North Barrington in 1984. She and her husband Pete McDonnell have two children, Meredith and Jonathan.
Eleanor is a proud graduate of Northwestern University's Kellogg Graduate School of Management, MM/MBA, and from Boston College where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing .

BUSINESS EXPERIENCE
Eleanor is Founder, President & CEO of The Remington Group, LLC, a international retained executive search firm. In addition Corporate Success Partners a division of The Remington Group, LLC , offers organizational leadership team training and consulting services.
Eleanor is an 18+ year expert of organizational management improvement. She has studied success and leadership and its effect on organizations that range from privately held organizations to major Fortune 500 corporations. Eleanor has been quoted in the Wall Street Journal, other newspapers, major trade journals, radio, TV and additional publications.
She has authored five books. Her three newest books are, How to Hit a Homerun With Your Resume (December 2013), Interview Questions That Change the Game! (January 2014) and Secrets of the Job Search for the Over 50 Crowd (February 2016). Her fifth book, Leading to Success – The Female Advantage, will be published in 2024.

COMMUNITY SERVICE
Eleanor is passionate about helping others succeed. She has been a champion for mentoring, fundraising and teaching for the enrichment of the community. Most recently has supported raising awareness for FSHD by personally seaking "Day of Awareness June 20, 2025" Proclamation in the State of Illinois (Governor), Illinois Senate Resolution, Illinois House of Representatives Resolution, Lake County Board Proclamation, Village of North Barrington Proclamation. Notably, Eleanor has chaired the Barrington American Cancer Society, Relay for Life the past 8 years. She helped the local community raise in excess of $1.8 million, making Barrington's Relay for Life #2 in the State of Illinois.

I am very proud what the Board of Trustees and I have acheived in the 7 years that I have been in office as their Village of North Barrington President.  Here are some of my accomplishments since 2019...

First balanced budget for 4 years after 7 years of deficit spending.
First time in 61 years created a Capital Improvement Plan.
First time in 61 years, two culvert study done for the entire Village.
2019 created the first public bid process for the Village.
First time 61 years using a auditing firm that specializes in muncipal clients.
First time 61 years separation/segregation of financial duties.
